looking fine For valentine’s Day

jennifer wagner

No matter how long I’m married to my handsome hubby, I never (EVER) get tired of dating him! We are one of those weird couples that actually enjoys being around one another. Hehe!
In all seriousness, I absolutely love spending time with my hubby. With life being, well, life… setting aside time for just the two of us is absolutely vital.  Sure, we see each other every day, and we talk all the time, but there’s just something so re-charging about that special time together. It’s a couple (or few, if we’re super lucky) hours of time where we refuse to worry about work, kids, the future, or whatever else might be weighing on us at the time.
Sometimes, we are so eager for a date night that we just throw ourselves together, say farewell to the kiddos, and run out the door as fast as we can.
But lots of times, I like to dress things up a bit. Nowadays I realize I can have both cuteness and comfort, so I go for it!

We all have a personal style, and there is a perfect fashion choice for every occasion. So when it comes to date nights,  I stick to these four main fashion tips (along with my cute + comfy rule, of course).

keep the occasion in mind

Seems like a no-brainer, but it does help to consider what you’ll be doing on your date. Headed to dinner? Is it a fancy place or a hole-in-the-wall diner (which is what my hubby and I tend to like)? Walking around downtown? Wear shoes that you can walk in with ease. Going to the beach to watch the sunset? Remember it’s super windy on the beach.
Dressing for the occasion is definitely important. I will never forget my (awful) choice for my first date with my (now) husband. I literally wore an old hoody and jeans. When he showed up, he was in a nice, button-up shirt with a collar, nice jeans, etc.
So don’t make the same mistake as me. Consider the occasion first! Hehe!

step outside the box

This is your opportunity to dress a little edgier, trendier, or just more fun than you get to in your day to day. The regular everyday clothes we wear are awesome, but why not have a little more fun on date night! For me this even means changing up the hair style, adding a little more “smoke” to the eyes, or popping some bold, red lips! Sometimes I even purchase a clothing item while I’m out shopping and save it for the random occasion, just so I can feel a little extra special on date night.

don’t overthink it

Remember that whoever you’re headed on a date with, loves you regardless of what you’re wearing, how your hair looks, or if you got your makeup just right. So if everything turns out differently than you planned, and all goes haywire… don’t sweat it. Just take a deep breath, remember the reason behind spending tine together doesn’t necessarily have much to do with how you look at all, and have a good time with that special someone.

feel like a million bucks

I’m sure any of our awesome guys would tell us they couldn’t care less if our make-up was perfect or our clothes just right. So for me, I like add the extra special touches so that I, myself, can feel amazing on my date night. I generally spend a little more time on my make-up and hair. I choose clothes accordingly. When I go on a date with my hubby, I want to feel great. So I really try to make sure that I spend a little time planning so that I look great, feel great, and can be good company on our special night out.

the red dress

Here’s an example of a recent date night outfit that I absolutely adored. This Rosie & Claire Erika dress literally made me feel like I was wrapped in a cozy blanket at my grandma’s house. It was extra flowy in all the right places, but definitely did not make me feel like I was being swallowed up by material at the same time. The length was absolutely perfect. I love a cute dress that goes just below the knee. I also love a good three-quarter-length sleeve. The color was perfection, because who doesn’t feel like a million bucks wearing red on date night?! The best part about this dress is that it was so trendy and adorable.
I like to keep things simple, so I paired it with some stud earrings, a dainty necklace, and my favorite watch.  It was a little snowy out, so I chose a very comfortable gray boot with a small heal.

I’m here to tell you this was the most amazing date-night outfit I have ever chosen.  Nothing was restricting or tight, but yet I feel like I was well put-together. Not to mention, my hubby did tell me several times how much he loved my dress, which is of course and added bonus.

floral print dress

Another great fashion idea for a date with the hubster is this floral print Jillian dress.
When I received my package in the mail I was completely stunned. This dress was beautiful!! The material was absolutely perfect for a dress of this length, and I was absolutely smitten with the print. The material did not wrinkle at all. I literally pulled it out of the package and did not need to iron/steam it at all!
This particular day was a little chilly outside, so I paired it with a denim jacket, some stud earrings, and a pair of cute flats. I was just so happy to find that I could stick to my rule of comfort and cuteness all in one.

At the end of the day, it’s all about that special time with that special guy. I absolutely positively love spending time with my awesome hubby regardless of the occasion.  Truly, I value that time together so greatly that it’s nearly impossible to put it into words. When it’s all said and done, that’s what it’s all about anyway-cherished time spent with my #1 guy.

Jessica, it totally is. We have two small children (4 and 1) and trust me, date nights need to happen way more than they do! But we make the effort and make it happen when we can. That’s what matters!! <3
