Making It Smell Like The Holidays With Homemade Potpourri

We are just a few days from Thanksgiving, which means in my book, it’s finally ok to break out all things Christmas. I know for many, getting into the holiday season comes with sparked memories, traditions and the smells associated. Two of my ultimate favorite smells that immediately wake my senses are oranges (Floridian all the way) and cranberries. Mix in a little cinnamon and rosemary and it’s a Christmas potpourri done deal.

how to

There is probably no easier recipe you’ll make this entire holiday season than this one. You basically put all the ingredients in the pan, like this one from Made In and call it a Christmasy day! First, you add your rosemary sprigs and cinnamon sticks as no prep necessary. Use a zester to add sweet smelling orange swirls to the pan, then add the juice of the whole orange using a hand held juicer. I used a knife to shave a few larger orange zest pieces for long lasting use as well since the more oranges, the merrier. I cut the cranberries in half to make sure they absorb all the other ingredients and placed in the pan.

Using the stove top, I placed on medium heat to bring the pan to a simmer and let it cook down for about 3-5 minutes. At this point, some of the orange juice will have reduced. If you plan to keep it cooking at that moment for a party or family gathering, you can add a little water and place it on low. If you are prepping ahead, you can remove from burner and place in a container or mason jar to refrigerate. When you’re ready to use, place in the pan on low and add water at that time for use. Well, that’s it. Told you it was the easiest recipe you’ll make this holiday season.
