{obsessed with smoothie bowls}

A couple weeks ago, I took a leap of “randomness” and tried out a new recipe- acai smoothie bowls. Have you ever Instagram stalked someone’s recipes, DIY projects, or fashion tips? Well I did, and that’s how I stumbled across the amazing creation of acai smoothie bowls. Long story short, I’ve been following Nourish With The Seasons on IG and they inspired me to buy ingredients that I wouldn’t normally buy and I have been very pleased. They have a cookbook that I can’t wait to try as well! The girls that manage the page are from Australia and they have some of the most creative ways to make ordinary fruit look so delicious. Of course, me being a graphic designer, made me want to design my food, which turned into wanting to eat healthier! Go figure?? The cool thing with acai smoothie bowls is that they are good for your skin. I have noticed a significant youthful glow in my skin since I’ve been eating them. Pretty neat, huh?
Let’s dive into the delicious acai smoothie bowl!

The base of the smoothie bowl is made by Sambazon, its premade blend of frozen acai berry juice. I get mine from Whole Foods, but you can order it from Amazon as well! There are some acai berry powders that can be used instead of the premade frozen blend that are packed with more antioxidants and have less sugar, but I just use the frozen pre-made blend. Here’s the recipe I’ve come to make my own and love the combo…


bowl mix:

  • 3/4 cup raspberries
  • 3/4 cup blackberries
  • 1/3 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 packet acai frozen blend or scoop amount per dry mix portion instructions


Add your favorite toppings in the amount of preferred taste: unsweetened coconut shavings, strawberries, chia seeds, kiwi, banana, you name it! Have fun with mixing up flavors as you never know what combination will be a hit. 

​I put my acai in the blender with the coconut milk and blend till my heart is content. I prefer it to be thick so I don’t blend it very long. I have tried other flavors of coconut milk, but personally I like the chocolate coconut milk better.  

After that, I pile on my toppings of fresh fruit, chia seeds, coconut shavings, ground flax seeds- everything but the kitchen sink and it is heavenly! Like a big bowl of fruity ice cream.

My cookbook is on the way so I will have more recipes to spark my smoothie bowl inspiration in the future!
